Tell us how you started?
My husband and I are interior designers. In 2005, we decided to start a decent and simple restaurant in a quiet place surrounded by the forest. That was our first restaurant in Ampang. Whilst running the restaurant, a Dutch foreigner approached us to have her wedding at our restaurant. She had wanted a garden concept wedding, and it was the ambience as well as the food and services that attracted her. That was when our restaurant wedding concept was created, and we were the first to introduce this concept. Back then most weddings were done at hotels or community halls.
What makes your product unique?
We strive for customers’ dining experience that is similar to a 5 star restaurant, but at an affordable price. We also have wedding and reception spaces and will try our best to make a customer’s dream wedding come true.
What was your experience during COVID-19?
It was definitely tough as it was a sudden move by the Government. We had to quickly adjust. We had to ensure that the SOP was complied with. We started online food services during MCO, and luckily our customers were loyal and the response was good. Our staff was of course worried about their jobs but we are fortunate that most of our staff have been working with us for a long time and equally committed to make sure we can continue our business.
Now, our restaurant is opened as usual and we adhere to the strict SOP on our patrons as well as our staff. The bookings for our wedding and reception halls are continuing to be filled up, as we have a large space and we can implement adequate social distancing, good hygiene practices and temperature checks. We are grateful that our customers continue to trust us.

What’s next for Boraombak?
This is our family business and we want to continue to serve our customers for all types of occasions like birthdays, family outings, weddings, anniversary. I’m lucky my children are involved in this business as they are more tech-savvy and we keep our social media updated. Ultimately, we want our customers to continue enjoying the hotel dining experience and services, at affordable rates. That has always been and will always be our identity.
